Crochet Owl Hat Patten written by Sydney Richards Materials: ***Worsted weight yarn*** (I prefer Red Heart super saver) -Black, white, choice color 1, choice color 2, and choice color 3. ***Tapestry Needle*** ***Scissors*** ***Crochet hooks*** -5.5mm and 3.5mm Sizes: Small child (2-5 years) Large child (6-13 years) Terms to know: SS- Slip stitch CH- Chain SC- Single crochet SC2TOG- Single crochet 2 together DC- Double crochet DC2INC- Double crochet 2 increase SC3INC- Single crochet 3 increase Please note the chain 3 will NEVER count as a double crochet. Small Child Hat With choice color 1 and 5.5 mm hook: Ch 4. In 4th chain from hook, SS to create a circle. Chain 3. (Remember the chain 3 will NEVER count as a double crochet) Row 1: DC 14 times into center of circle. SS into top of first DC. (14) Row 2: Ch 3. [DC2INC] 14 times. SS into top of first DC. (28) Row 3: Ch 3. [DC2INC in first, 1 DC in next] 14 times. SS into top of first DC. (42) Row 4: Ch 3. [DC2INC in first, 1 DC in next 2] 14 times. SS into top of first DC. SC 6 into center of circle. SS in top of first SC. (6) Row 2: Ch 1. [SC2INC] 6 times. SS in top of first SC. (12) Switch to choice color 1. Row 3: Ch 1. [SC2INC in first, SC in next] 6 times. With 5.5mm hook and choice color 3: Chain 6. Row 1: In second chain from hook, SC 1 in each stitch across. Ch 1. Turn (5) Row 2: 1 SC, [SC2TOG] 2 times, (first between 2/3 and second between 3/4) 1 SC. Ch 1. Turn. (4) Row 3: 1 SC, [SC2TOG] 1 time, (between 2/3) Ch 1. Turn. (3) Row 4: [SC2TOG] 2 times, (first between 1/2 and second between 2/3) Ch 1. Turn, (2) Row 5: [SC2TOG] 1 time. Chain 1. (1) Row 6 (Border): chain 1. SC 4 evenly across side1, [SC3INC] in corner. SC 3 evenly across side 2. [SC3INC] in corner. SC 4 evenly across side 3. [SC3INC] in top of row 5 decrease. SS in first SC. Finish off leaving tail 6-10 inches long. Using tapestry needle, sew eyes onto hat. Then sew beak on hat. Weave in all ends.
Cut 4 stands of color choice 1 and 2 strands of color choice 2 about 6 inches long. Separate into 2 sets of 2 strands color choice 1 and 1 strand color choice 2. Tie the strands of yarn on hat between rows 3/4 on sides. Once tied on. Cut evenly across top- about 1 inch. Weave in all ends. Enjoy! Feel free to sell, gift, or destroy anything you make.
